“This grant program represents the commitment of the Attorney General’s Office to supporting communities that have incurred costs responding to the crisis,” said Richie Taylor, a spokesperson for Mayes. Hobbs said in an interview with the Arizona Mirror that she could not comment on the lawsuit, but the state is still responding to the sober living crisis. Arizona is culpable for creating the crisis, the lawsuit states, noting that the sober living crisis grew worse even after the state knew about “the extreme magnitude of the fraud and harm” as far back as the summer of 2019. They attribute, like the fact that it’s a very complex scheme to wanting to create a response that was probably like met the moment, met the scale of the fraud.

MASH-certified homes play an integral role in the continuum of care by offering a bridge between clinical treatment settings and independent living. These homes provide residents with peer mash sober housing support, structure, and accountability—key factors in preventing relapse and promoting sustained recovery. Thank you to Lowell House Addiction Treatment and Recovery for inviting us to visit the Saving Grace House in Lowell, MA. Thank you to Victoria Nesto and Tiffany Foster for giving us the tour and allowing me to share my experience with the the women. Saving Grace is a permanent sober home for women over 18 that have at least six months of sober time.
